Last month I posted the first draft of my FPL squad for the season. Now, with more friendlies, transfers and time to consider, there have been some changes to my squad, and I’m now sharing what will almost certainly be my final squad for the start of the campaign. For Foot Sake will be expanding it’s FPL offering this season, and we’ll post an article covering the best squad for FPL Gameweek 1 on Thursday.
FFS FPL 2026/27 Squad
Goalkeepers
Antonin Kinsky (4.5m) – Kinsky keeps his place from the original line up. He has looked assured in pre-season and there’s no reason to think he won’t be Tottenham’s No.1 for the season ahead. He looks a cracking pick at 4.5m.
Bart Verbruggen (4.5m) – Replaces Senne Lammens (5.0m) – The reasoning for this was mainly to save 0.5m as I intend to rotate keepers. I wouldn’t put anyone off Lammens, but I saw a way to get a United defensive asset in my side, whilst also keeping some budget for other changes.
Defenders
Jan-Paul van Hecke (5.0m) – Replaces Pedro Porro (5.5m) – Porro hasn’t played a minute of pre-season, so he is replaced by his Tottenham teammate who should be on for plenty of defensive contributions in the early weeks of the campaign. Porro goes on the watchlist and will come back in once he’s back starting games. This one also saves 0.5m.
Luke Shaw (4.5m) – Replaces Ferdi Kadioglou (4.5m) – Manchester United were listed as a team to follow and I did have Lammens as my United defender, but he went out the side to free up 0.5, so in comes Luke Shaw who gives a value route into the Red Devils’ defence.
Ricardo Calafiori (5.5m) – Replaces Cristhian Mosquera (5.5m) – You need an Arsenal defender and while this is no slight on Mosquera, after his goal in the Community Shield, Italian Calafiori comes into the side for his attacking potential.
Marc Guehi (6.0m) – Replaces Nico O’Reilly (6.5m) – Guehi came on in the Community Shield, and with Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol looking all over the place against Arsenal, my hunch is that Guehi will start the Premier League opener. He was superb last season and will get plenty of defensive contributions and attacking returns
Bobby Thomas (4.0m) – Replaces Leif Davis (4.0m) – Bobby Thomas comes in from Davis given Coventry have the favourable fixture run and centre backs are more likely for defensive contributions than wing backs.
Midfield
Bruno Fernandes (12.0m) (VC) – A must have for me, the Manchester United captain stays in from the original draft.
Bryan Mbeumo (8.0m) – Another United ‘midfielder’ who stays in. Mbeumo has been an FPL star for a while now and is likely to start the season up front for United. He could make a mockery of his price tag.
Dominik Szoboszlai (7.0m) – The all-action Hungarian will contribute plenty in both defence and attack. He’s in 41.5% of squads, so it would be madness to leave him out.
Christos Tzolis (6.5m) – Replaces Phil Foden (7.0m) – Another half-million gets saved here with Greek new-boy Tzolis coming into the side. Has been electric in pre-season, got two assists in the Community Shield, and could cause Coventry plenty of problems in GW1.
Diego Gomez (5.0m) – Replaces Dario Essugo (4.5m) – This is where some of that value we unlocked earlier comes in handy. With a real dearth of 4.5m midfielders, a 5.0m option was essential. Gomez scored five goals last season and should get plenty of minutes, he just edged out Amine Adli as the selection.
Forwards
Erling Haaland (15.5m) (C) – Looked a little off the pace against Arsenal but that was his first game of pre-season and he will be expected to carry the attacking burden for City this campaign. He captains the side for GW1.
Joao Pedro (7.5m) – Replaces Brian Brobbey (6.0m) – Another spot where the value unlocked in defence pays dividends. Pedro was good value last season and after a full pre-season, in which he’s excelled, he’s a cracking pick to lead the line alongside Haaland.
Kaye Furo (4.5m) – Replaces Jonah Kusi-Asare (4.5m) – Fulham spent big money on Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid, so Kusi-Asare’s minutes look to be limited, while Furo was bought for big money and could get minutes in the later stages of games either with or instead of Igor Thiago. Depending on how things go, a switch to a 4-3-3 and an upgrade on Furo could be implemented at the first wildcard.
