FPL Gameweek 7’s Essential Fixtures & Players to Target

FPL Gameweek 7 Preview banner with For Foot Sake logo

It was a bad week for this column as blanks from the strikers and no City players contributed to a meagre total of just 46 points. The defence and attack contributed nothing and despite a reasonable effort from the midfield, it wasn’t enough to prevent the worst result of the season so far.

Still, there’s no rest for the wicked and we’ll try to put things right with our FPL Gameweek 7 Preview.

Let’s get it.

FPL Gameweek 6 Team

DEF: Calafiori – 9pts, Timber – 1pt, Hall – 0pts
MID: Rogers – 9pts, Barnes – 2pts, Saka (C) – 4pts, Gros – 6pts, Cunha – 10pts
FWD: Emersonn – 2pts, Kostoulas – 1pt
TOTAL: 46pts

FPL Gameweek 7 Target Fixtures & Players

Manchester City (vs Ipswich, home)

City are the top target this week despite their 4-2 loss to PSG in the Champions League. They face an Ipswich side that have made an encouraging start to the season, but are yet to keep a clean sheet, and City may be on the rebound after their European reverse on Wednesday.

Top picks:

  • Josko Gvardiol (5.8m) – Great pick from the City backline and still cheaper than Marc Guehi, Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly. Averaging nearly six points a match to boot.
  • Antoine Semenyo (8.3m) – 17 points in City’s last home outing make Semenyo a strong option this weekend, providing he isn’t rotated after Iliman Ndiaye’s strong cameo against PSG.
  • Rayan Cherki (7.9m) – Scored a lovely goal at Anfield last weekend and looks to have edged out Phil Foden in the No.10 position for Enzo Maresca.
  • Erling Haaland (15.6m) – Has scored in every game bar the first match of the season and found in 75.3% of teams. Undroppable.

Arsenal (vs Nottingham Forest, away)

On Sunday, Arsenal travel to a Forest side still finding their feet under Oliver Glasner. Arteta had the measure over his counterpart during his time at Palace and while the Champions are yet to quite click so far this season, they need three points from this game with City expected to see off Ipswich on Saturday.

Top picks:

  • Ricardo Calafiori (5.9m) – A goal against Leeds and a rest in midweek make the Italian the best option from Arsenal’s backline.
  • Ezri Konsa (4.6m) – The budget route into the Gunners’ defence, although the set piece goals have dried up, so defensive points are the main hope for the England man.
  • Declan Rice (7.3m) – Three assists in four games for Rice and it has his lovely backheel that set up the winner for Arsenal last time out.
  • Bukayo Saka (9.6m) – Blanked against Leeds but had a couple of clear sights of goal and got on the scoresheet against Lille on Tuesday in the Champions League

Brighton (vs Crystal Palace, home)

Brighton have been a standout performer so far this season and they have plenty of assets worth looking at for a home game against rivals Crystal Palace. The Eagles are leaky at the back and while they won against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, they have a trip to Lyon on Thursday and may suffer a European hangover for their trip to the south coast.

Top picks:

  • Bart Verbruggen (4.6m) – Two clean sheets in a row have taken the Dutchman to third in the overall keeper rankings.
  • Maxim De Cuyper (5.1m) – An absolute revelation and must-have now he’s up to 35.6% ownership.
  • Pascal Gros (6.0m) – Another must-have from the Seagulls,

Bournemouth (vs Sunderland, home)

Bournemouth have had a tough start to the campaign, yet to win a game, but I like their chances this week at home to Sunderland, and they have a few affordable assets to help unlock the premium assets.

Top picks:

  • James Hill (5.5m) – Bournemouth are yet to keep a clean sheet, but Hill was a gem last season and the Cherries won’t get a better chance of a shutout than this.
  • Marcus Tavernier (6.1m) – Tavernier started the season with a superb 29 points from four games, but suffered in two tough fixtures against Liverpool and Chelsea. Can bounce back here.
  • Evanilson (6.0m) – Three assists and a goal is a solid return for the Brazilian and he’s likely to be the main attacking threat once again.

Chelsea (vs Everton, away)

This is by no means a nailed on victory for Xabi Alonso’s side, but their attack is irresistible and firing on all cylinders, so a double or even triple up on their assets is worth strong consideration this weekend, particularly with other premiumn assets like Bruno Fernandes misfiring

Top picks:

  • Morgan Rogers (7.9m) – Rogers has only blanked in one match for his new club and looks set for more returns at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
  • Cole Palmer (9.7m) – Probably has a higher ceiling than Rogers and capable of explosive performances so worth the extra funds if you have them.
  • Joao Pedro (7.8m) – An absolute bargain considering his output. Missed the trip to Brentford before the break but bounced back with 12 points against Bournemouth on Saturday.

FPL Gameweek 7 Captaincy

Erling Haaland (C) – A simple pick this week, Haaland was superb against PSG, getting two goals, and could have had more. A moral to score and extend his tally for the campaign.

Joao Pedro (VC) – Tricky fixture for Chelsea but the Brazilian has had a brilliant start and looks the most solid pick this weekend for the vice captaincy.

Worth a Punt

Ryan Sessegnon (4.3m) – Fulham have had a shocking start but Sessegnon is a value pick based on his attacking output from defence.

Johan Manzambi (5.9m) – The Swiss forward has started to purr for Villa and opened the scoring for them in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Anton Stach (6.0m) – Looks one of the top FPL differentials this week with Leeds playing well and facing a Manchester United side in dire straits.

Dominic Solanke (5.8m) – Spurs are another London side having a stinker but Solanke got the equaliser for ten man Tottenham at Old Trafford last time out.
