FPL Gameweek 28’s Essential Fixtures & Players to Target

FPL Gameweek 28 Preview banner

Last week’s team was a case of so near, yet so far, as 25 points were left on the bench. It’s always agonising to have your sub keeper make a penalty save, and Harry Maguire’s seven point haul on Monday left us reeling. Still, 45 points was bang on average and we’re ready for another crack in FPL Gameweek 28 as we enter the home stretch of the season, and there’s still so much to play for. Let’s get stuck in.

FPL Gameweek 28 Target Fixtures & Players

Manchester City (vs Leeds, away)

City are breathing down Arsenal’s necks and seem to have hit form. They toughed out a 2-1 win against Newcastle last time out but have had a week off to prepare for this, so Pep Guardiola will have a plethora of options here, and that helps out FPL managers.

Top picks:

  • Nico O’Reilly (5.0m) – A defender playing as a midfielder? Sign us up! Two great goals last week make him a must for the trip to Elland Road.
  • Rodri (6.3m) – Looks back to his best, a defensive contribution magnet and also good for a goal or assist when on form. Improved since O’Reilly’s move into midfield.
  • Antoine Semenyo (8.1m) – Remains a brilliant asset, capable of brilliance at any moment
  • Erling Haaland (14.8m) – When he’s not scoring, he’s assisting, so leave him out at your peril. Playing against a club with family history too, he’s bound to make his mark. Captaincy material.

Arsenal (vs Chelsea, home)

If City do their job Arsenal will again be under pressure in FPL Gameweek 28, as they were last week against Tottenham. Chelsea’s form has hit the skids after a positive start under Liam Rosenior, and they lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup Semi-Final a few weeks back. Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Wolves may have been a wake up call and they’re fancied to keep up their end of the bargain in the title race here.

Top picks:

  • Gabriel (7.1m) – Rinse and repeat.
  • Declan Rice (7.6m) – One of the biggest risers in the game this season. Certain starter and has a strong xGI rank.
  • Eberechi Eze (7.2m) – Surely starts after his heroics against Tottenham and will be full of confidence. Could be the key to Arsenal getting over the line in the title race.
  • Viktor Gyokeres (8.8m) – Another who should be full of confidence. Scored in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg and starting to finally fulfil expectations as Arsenal’s leading forward.

Manchester United (vs Crystal Palace, home)

United got back to winning ways at Everton on Monday night and have a favourable home game against Palace, who picked up a crucial win last time out themselves. This is a must-win for Michael Carrick’s side in the race for Champions League places, so pick a few United players and hope for a haul in FPL Gamweek 28.

Top picks:

  • Senne Lammens (5.0m) – United’s in-form backline make Lammens a solid keeper choice this week.
  • Harry Maguire (4.3m) – The bargain defender in the game at the moment. Under 4.5m and you can expect that to be well above that mark by the end of the campaign.
  • Bruno Fernandes (9.9m) – FPL darling who will fancy his chances this weekend. As far as we know, he’s still the go-to man for set pieces.

Liverpool (vs West Ham, home)

The Reds have the chance to crank up the pressure in the race for Champions League places with an enviable home fixture against West Ham. The Liverpool defence is improved and there are plenty of options to choose from in attack, so this feels like a game to target.

Top picks:

  • Ibrahima Konate (5.4m) – Showed up with nine points last week to make it 27 points from his last four games. Fancied to go well again.
  • Dominik Szoboszlai (6.8m) – Continues to make Liverpool tick and a great value enabler in the midfield.
  • Mohamed Salah (14.0m) – Not the FPL force of old but has looked close to his incredible best since returning from AFCON.

Bournemouth (vs Sunderland, home)

This week’s wildcard, Bournemouth have suffered a slight dip in form recently, but they have some cracking FPL options in their ranks and Sunderland were awful last time out against Fulham, so a home win is fancied here.

Top picks:

  • Adrien Truffert (4.5m) – Consistent performer who is capable of attacking returns.
  • Rayan (5.6m) – Already looks another classic Bournemouth signing who will make them huge profit when he’s eventually sold. For now though, enjoy the price point and watch your FPL rank rise.
  • Evanilson (6.9m) – Has had a quiet few weeks but this looks a good fixture for him to return to form.

FPL Gameweek 28 Captain Picks

Erling Haaland (C) – Only a matter of time before he starts scoring with his regular regularity. An elite captaincy prospect this week.

Bruno Fernandes (VC) – One of all-time FPL greats and strong possibilities in a favourable home tie this week.

Worth a Punt

Kristoffer Ajer (4.3m) – The big Norwegian will have high hopes of a clean sheet and defensive contributions points away to hapless Burnley.

Anton Stach (4.7m) – Scored last week and if Leeds trouble the scoresheet then he’s likely to be involved.

Raul Jimenez (6.1m) – On his best run of the season with three returns in his last four and plays a shocking Tottenham side at home.

Benjamin Sesko (8.1m) – May not start but playing the role of supersub brilliantly with two eight pointers in the last two.
