Dortmund and Marseille Ready to Exploit English Vulnerabilities in the Champions League

Tommy the Punter's Midweek Article Header

English clubs head into this Champions League round looking alarmingly fragile, and Europe’s big hitters are lining up to take advantage. Tottenham are spiralling, Liverpool look lost, and even Arsenal — the most stable of the bunch — face an uphill task at the San Siro against an Inter side that specialises in suffocating games exactly like this. It’s a midweek that feels less like opportunity and more like danger, with Dortmund and Marseille both sensing weakness and ready to pounce.

Inter v Arsenal

Champions League, San Siro, Milan, Italy, 9pm CET, Tuesday 20th January
Prices: 2.90 Inter, 3.35 Draw, 2.55 Arsenal

Two elite defences, two title contenders, and two managers who will happily take a low‑event game if it keeps them in control. They met at the San Siro last year and Arsenal lost 1–0, and everything points to another cagey affair.

Arsenal’s last two league games have finished 0–0, while Inter arrive off back‑to‑back 1–0 wins. Neither side is in the mood to open up. Under 2.5 looks a very tidy play.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals @ 1.72. 1 unit.

Tottenham v Dortmund

Champions League, Tottenham Stadium, London, UK, 9pm CET, Tuesday 20th January
Prices: 2.85 Tottenham, 3.55 Draw, 2.45 Dortmund

Tottenham look like a team begging for the international break to arrive early. One win in eight, no structure, no confidence, and Thomas Frank already giving off “last chance saloon” energy. Dortmund, meanwhile, have lost just once in the Bundesliga and sit second, with a huge GW8 clash against Inter on the horizon. They know they need this result.

At around 2.40, it’s as confident as you can be about an away side in Europe. Spurs look broken. Dortmund look purposeful. Good value.

Tip: Dortmund to win @ 2.45. 1 unit.

Marseille v Liverpool

Champions League, Stade Velodrome, Marseille, France, 9pm CET, Wednesday 21st January
Prices: 3.70 Marseille, 3.85 Draw, 1.95 Liverpool

Marseille are the top scorers in Ligue 1 and they’re a nightmare at home. Liverpool, by contrast, are wobbling all over the place. Even with Salah back, they could only draw with Burnley at Anfield, which tells you everything about their current level.

Mason Greenwood is flying in France, leading the scoring charts and playing with the kind of swagger that will absolutely fancy itself against this Liverpool defence. Marseille draw no bet feels like a worthy punt in what should be a tight contest.

Tip: Marseille draw no bet @ 2.70. 1 unit.
