FPL Gameweek 27 preview banner

FPL Gameweek 27 is here and it throws up some intriguing fixtures in what is turning into a thrilling Premier League season. With so much to play for it gives us plenty of opportunities to pick up FPL points. It was alightly above average 50 points for the For Foot Sake in FPL Gameweek 26 with 9 points from Hill left on the bench, and blanks for Gyökeres, Fernandes and Sarr in particular, not helping. Still, we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down, and get stuck in again.

FPL Gameweek 27 Target Fixtures & Players

Chelsea (vs Burnley, home)

It looks a week to focus your attention on two overwhelming favourites playing at home. The first of these sides is Chelsea, who host 19th placed Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea dropped points to Leeds last time out but their big hitters are performing well at the moment, and that bodes well for FPL prospects.

Top Picks:

  • Trevoh Chalobah (5.8m) – Defensive contribution magnet and strong clean sheet potential here.
  • Wesley Fofana (4.4m) – A budget route into the Chelsea defence.
  • Cole Palmer (10.6m) – The first name on the team sheet for Liam Rosenior and our FPL team this week. Strong captaincy option.
  • Joao Pedro (7.7m) – If you fancy a differential captain, look no further, the Brazilian is on fire.

Man City (vs Newcastle, home)

City are the second of the two teams who anchor this week’s best FPL strategy, facing a Newcastle side who were mightily impressive in the Champions League, but not looking convincing domestically. City have hit their stride and are a different kettle of fish to Qarabag, so lock in a triple up for Pep Guardiola’s side and watch the points roll in.

Top Picks:

  • Gianluigi Donnarumma (5.6m) – Potentially the best signing in the Premier League this season, may rack up some save points here, and City have a strong run of fixtures down the home stretch.
  • Marc Guehi (5.2m) – Another season defining transfer, if you own him, set and forget, he won’t let you down.
  • Antoine Semenyo (7.9m) – Scored last time out against Fulham and can continue his incredible season here.
  • Erling Haaland (14.9m) – Back amongst the goals, the most owned player in the game is a must for any aspiring FPL team. Just listen out for the press conference this week.

Aston Villa (vs Leeds, home)

Villa haven’t been themselves in recent weeks but did pick up a vital win over Brighton last time out. Their defence has been solid though, so it might pay to get at least one of their backline in, especially with a fixture against Wolves following this one.

Top Picks:

  • Matty Cash (4.9m) – The press conference will be important here but as Villa’s top scoring defender, the Pole gets the nod.
  • Douglas Luiz (4.9m) – Started every game since returning to Villa and a solid budget enabler in midfield.
  • Morgan Rogers (7.6m) – The best Villa asset by far and pushing for captaincy given his recent form.

Crystal Palace (vs Wolves, home)

Some might say Palace are a risky play given their form, but you have to back any team at home to Wolves, and this week is no different. The bookies agree and there are some interesting angles into the Palace side

Top Picks:

  • Daniel Munoz (5.9m) – One of the best attacking defenders in the game so has favourable chances at both ends in this one.
  • Ismaila Sarr (6.4m) – Remains Palace’s best attacking midfield option so stick with him after last week’s blank.
  • Jorgen Strand Larsen (6.1m) – Two goals in the last game, the Norwegian has hit the ground running in South East London. Who would back against him scoring against his old club?

Liverpool (vs Nottingham Forest, away)

Vitor Pereira takes to the Forest dugout for the first time in what looks a difficult game. Liverpool have kept two clean sheets in the last two games and there are a few players playing extremely well in their ranks at the moment.

Top Picks:

  • Ibrahima Konate (5.4m) – A cheaper route into the Reds’ defence than Van Dijk, but equally capable at both ends.
  • Dominik Szoboszlai (6.7m) – Where would Liverpool be without him this season? Set-piece specialist and defensive contribution possibilities make the Hungarian a must this week.
  • Florian Wirtz (8.4m) – The German is looking better and better as weeks go past and has been knocking on the door of our team for a while.

FPL Gameweek 27 Captain Picks

Cole Palmer (C) – In fine form and a no-brainer decision to captain this week’s side against one of the worst teams in the league.

Erling Haaland (VC) – Even with a yellow mark against his name, he’s still a natural pick to take the VC token this week, having scored two goals in two in the league.

Worth a Punt

Ian Maatsen (4.2m) – Scored eight points last time out and if he starts over Lucas Digne he’s a really strong, value option in defence.

Crysencio Summerville (5.6m) – West Ham are in decent nick and Soucek is in sensational form for a pleasant looking home fixture against Bournemouth.

Anthony Gordon (7.2m) – Comes off a hat-trick in the Champions League and if Newcastle do threaten City, the England winner will be at the centre of it.

Dominic Solanke (7.2m) – Arsenal look extremely vulnerable and Solanke will be a handful for a defence that look more and more nervy as the title race hots up.
