FPL Gameweek 33’s Essential Fixtures & Players to Target

FPL Gameweek 33 banner

FPL Gameweek 33 is upon us and it’s the first of what should be two double gameweeks left in the season. Last week the FFS team scored a strong 59 points, with Nico O’Reilly and Jarrod Bowen the pick of the lot, both getting double figure hauls.

This week is a good one for managers with chips left, with Free Hit and Triple Captain obvious options given the plethora of sides with two matches. This is one of those weeks that can have huge swings in FPL, so it’s worth paying close attention and thinking carefully about how you set up your team and chip strategy for the rest of the season. We’ve even added a section this week specifically focusing on the best chip to use this week.

FPL Gameweek 33 Recommended Chip

Free Hit – With Manchester City likely to have another double FPL gameweek, considering they’re favourites to reach the FA Cup Final, this feels like the right time to launch the Free Hit chip. There are a number of teams playing twice, so you can spread the net far and wide and assemble and entire XI of players that have two chances to haul.

FPL Gameweek 33 Target Fixtures & Players

Manchester City (vs Arsenal & Burnley, home & away respectively)

This week is undoubtedly a title decider and Arsenal will be quaking at the prospect of a trip to the Etihad. They’ve not won their in basically a generation and form has completely flipped on it’s head since the Carabao Cup Final. City have looked brilliant in their last three games, and in FPL terms, they follow the Arsenal game with a trip to Burnley. It’s a pivotal week in the title race, and you can make it pivotal for your FPL team by tripling up on City assets.

Top picks:

  • Marc Guehi (5.1m) – 15 points for Guehi last week cemented his status as one of the best defenders in the game right now, with Nico O’Reilly a doubt, he looks the best option in City’s defence.
  • Antoine Semenyo (8.2m) – A quiet game against Chelsea last time out, but you can’t keep the Ghanaian down for long and he appears to be one of Guardiola’s most trusted lieutenants already.
  • Rayan Cherki (6.3m) – Changed the game at Stamford Bridge and is finishing the season with a flourish.
  • Erling Haaland (14.4m) – No goal against Chelsea, but loves playing against Arsenal and newly promoted clubs, so leave him out at your peril here.

Bournemouth vs (Newcastle & Leeds, away & home respectively)

Bournemouth have had a mixed week – A terrific win over Arsenal at the Emirates was followed by news that coveted Head Coach Andoni Iraola will leave the club at the end of the campaign. He leaves on good terms though and the Cherries have an away game against a poor Newcastle side, and a winnable home meeting with Leeds. Worth loading up on the South coast side this week given their 12 match unbeaten run.

Top picks:

  • Djordje Petrovic (4.6m) – Has been superb during Bournemouth’s unbeaten run and arguably the best value keeper in the game.
  • Marcos Senesi (5.2m) – The elegant centre back was excellent against Arsenal and leads the line superbly.
  • Alex Scott (5.0m) – Cracking finish for the Cherries’ winner at the Emirates and a good value option in midfield for the remainder of the season as he pushes for an England World Cup place.
  • Evanilson (6.7m) – Just edges out Kroupi Junior as the Bournemouth attacking pick this week due to the fact he’s on penalties.

Brighton vs (Tottenham & Chelsea, away & home respectively)

The Seagulls have won three on the bounce and first up for them it’s a trip to a miserable Tottenham Hotspur stadium where they’ll be eyeing up three points, they then welcome a Chelsea side in shocking form to the Amex, so there are plenty of opportunities for points in those games.

Top picks:

  • Jean-Paul van Hecke (4.5m) – Five point haul at Burnley and you wouldn’t bet against both defensive or attacking contributions in this double FPL gameweek.
  • Diego Gomez (4.9m) – Also a five point haul last week, Gomez looks another brilliant Latin American addition to the Seagulls’ midfield.
  • Danny Welbeck (6.3m) – Another man with more than an outside chance of a World Cup place. The veteran has been superb all season and proven big-game performer.

Leeds vs (Wolves & Bournemouth, home & away respectively)

Leeds kick off their double gameweek with a home tie against bottom club Wolves. The Yorkshire side could take a giant leap towards survival with a win, so Elland Road will be pumping. They follow up with a tricky but reasonably attractive trip to Bournemouth, where they could also pick up points. Leeds have a number of value picks, so they could enable a real crack at some premium assets this week.

Top picks:

  • Karl Darlow (3.9m) – Good, cheap option for the second goalkeeper spot this double FPL gameweek.
  • Jaka Bijol (3.9m) – Bijol has 22 points from his last three outings and is the fifth most in-form defender in the game. A must have at sub-4.0m and only 0.8% ownership.
  • Noah Okafor (5.5m) – Hero at Old Trafford on Monday with two goals, expect the Swiss winger to be a major threat again this week.

Nottingham Forest (vs Burnley, home)

Of the teams with one game this week, Nottingham Forest make most appeal with a home fixture against Burnley. A win would seriously jeopardise Tottenham and West Ham’s hopes of survival, and Vitor Pereira will have pencilled this one in as a must-win in the Reds’ survival quest.

Top picks:

  • Neco Williams (4.7m) – 31 points in three games and would be a definite starter if it wasn’t for the double FPL gameweek for other clubs. Definite bench option.
  • Morgan Gibbs-White (7.4m) – The creative orchestrator for Forest has stood up so many times, and will look to so again against the Clarets.
  • Callum Hudson-Odoi (5.7m) – 13 points in two outings and a cheap alternative to Gibbs-White in the Forest midfield.

FPL Gameweek 33 Captain Picks

Erling Haaland (C) – Has a superb record against Arsenal and then a fixture against a side all-but gone from the division already. This feels like potentially even a week for the Triple Captain chip, if you’re not using or already used the recommended Free Hit chip.

Cole Palmer (VC) – With Haaland certain to start against Arsenal, we’ve gone a bit leftfield with this week’s VC chip. Chelsea face crucial games against Manchester United and Brighton and when Palmer fires, boy does he fire in FPL.

Worth a Punt

Konstantinos Mavropanos (4.4m) – Two double-digit hauls in three games make the Greek defender as good a punt as any for West Ham’s trip to Crystal Palace.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (5.1m) – The first Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium should be a rip-roaring occasion and the English midfielder will fancy his chances to add to his impressive goal tally against Everton’s city rivals.

Cole Palmer (10.5m) – Yes, he’s had a quiet few weeks, but a double FPL gameweek is bonafide Cole Palmer territory. He’s now got less than 20% ownership, so could be a big differential this week.

Alexander Isak (10.3m) – Not too many forward options outside of the double FPL gameweekers but the Swedish forward makes some appeal after he started Liverpool’s game with PSG on Tuesday.
