This weekend was a disaster, an absolute disaster for me in FPL. A sea of blanks after a catastrophic free hit selection has seen me plummet down the rankings and I’m now staring down the barrel of a really poor season. If I’d left things as they were I’d have been looking at 70+ points with a heap of haulers in the squad. I do feel it’s a cruel blow and the logic to free hit was sound given City’s challenging game at Anfield, on paper at least. Liverpool just haven’t got it right under Iraola so far though, and Enzo Maresca’s men made a statement with their performance.
Tommy on the other hand can’t get it right with his tipping, but he did get a very respectable 71 points as he moved comfortably into the top 1m in the game. Hats off to our Tommy!
My Squad
I’ll keep this short, because there really isn’t much to write home about.
It started off badly with Jurrien Timber benched for Arsenal against Leeds, picked up a little when Ricardo Calafiori scored the equaliser, and then went south again when Bukayo Saka missed when clean through in the last minute. A goal for the England winger would have taken my score above average, but it wasn’t to be.
Nicolas Jackson, Pascal Gros and Morgan Rogers all got attacking returns to make the remainder of Saturday’s games reasonably strong, but I was hit hard by my benched players. Abdoul Ouattara scored for a ten-pointer for Ipswich, and Diego Gomez picked up five which is more than my captain Saka managed.
Morgan Gibbs White was unlucky not to return something at Palace on Sunday and Monday was just a killer with Newcastle getting thumped at Coventry, Hornicek and Hall contributing precisely zero points to my weekly total, leaving me with a measly 47 points and plenty of work ahead. A real waste of a chip and a season that lies in peril.

For Foot Sake Squad
A cracking week for Tommy who hit 71 points thanks to a lovely captaincy pick of Joao Pedro who put 24 on the board for the team, 15 from Maxim De Cuyper who got a goal, clean sheet and three bonus points and solid returns for Morgan Rogers, Ricardo Calafiori and Erling Haaland.
Tommy’s now up to 853,088 overall and is dreaming of a memorable debut season in FPL. He has 4.2m in the bank and tells me he’s eyeing up Thiago with his transfer this week. Brentford have a solid run of fixtures so that looks a solid pick and leaves me with even more work to do.

FPL Gameweek 7 Pointers
- Manchester City’s guilty verdict no concern for FPL players – Manchester City are no riddled with problems off the field but, if anything, that looks to have made them more determined on it, as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Liverpool at the weekend. Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Elliot Anderson, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol are all popular picks playing well, and there’s no reason to sell any of them as they embark on a cracking run of fixtures after making it six wins out of six at Anfield
- Liverpool and Manchester United assets a strong sell – It’s hard to make a case for holding onto any Liverpool or United players as they continued their troubling starts to the season at the weekend. Popular picks like Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo blanked again, while Liverpool are without their leading assets like Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai, and face a tough trip to Brentford in Gameweek 7.
- Newly promoted clubs now trustworthy again – The Premier League relegation scrap looks a fascinating battle this year, largely thanks to the form of Hull, Ipswich and Coventry, none of those three sides lost at the weekend and a watch on them could be well worth it to help find FPL value.
Head back here on in three weeks for my preview of my team for Gameweek 7.
