Tommy the Punter’s Weekend Tips: Liverpool to inflict further pain on Chelsea as Tottenham fight continues

Liverpool, Sevilla and Tottenham fight at the weekend for survival banner

My Champions League form has been the backbone of what’s been a fantastic spring so far, and it didn’t let me down again, first Arsenal shutting down the Atletico Madrid attack perfectly in their 1‑0 win, and then PSG securing the 1‑1 draw in Munich that got me my second play‑up. The final will be a brilliant affair, without question the two best sides in Europe, and that’s all you can ask for.

Very little has been sorted out in the Premier League still, apart from Burnley and Wolves going down, which was known for a while, so this weekend sees plenty of good betting opportunities. There’s also a trip to Spain for a club in an unbelievable position, so let’s get cracking.

Liverpool v Chelsea

Premier League, Anfield, Liverpool, UK, 1.30pm CET, Saturday 9th May
Prices: 1.84 Liverpool, 3.95 Draw, 3.95 Chelsea

Two clubs who will not be happy at all about how this season has panned out. Both have had major problems on and off the pitch and can’t wait for it all to be over. One team though still has something to play for.

Liverpool need a result to confirm their Champions League participation next season, and have a ripe opportunity to do so here. Chelsea are a disgrace right now, no spirit, no cohesion, no tactical identity, and despite the huge amounts of money spent, they look no closer to genuinely rejoining the elite than they did at the start of the Todd Boehly era.

The Reds came up just short against a good United side last week, and prior to that had won three league games on the spin. Another win should get them that top‑five spot, and with trips to Villa and Brentford to come, Arne Slot’s men will want to get the job done early so nerves can’t knock them off course. I think they’ll do it against this shadow of a Chelsea side.

Tip: Liverpool to win @ 1.84. 1 unit.

Sevilla v Espanyol

La Liga, Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, Seville, Spain, 4.15pm CET, Saturday 9th May
Prices: 2.06 Sevilla, 3.30 Draw, 3.80 Espanyol

It’s been a desperate season for Sevilla, and despite Monday’s critical 1‑0 win over Real Sociedad, they’re still deep in the relegation mire and need at least one more win to avoid the ignominy of playing in the Segunda next season.

They have four games to save themselves, and with trips to Villarreal and Celta to come, along with Real Madrid at home, this is simply must‑win for the Andalucians. They played well in that win on Monday, dominated the chances, and were unfortunate not to have another goal after the officials got an offside call totally wrong.

Espanyol’s season promised a lot but they haven’t won in 17 games — an astonishing run — and with everything riding on this for the home side, you have to favour Sevilla to get the job done and take a giant leap towards survival.

Tip: Sevilla to win @ 2.06. 1 unit.

Tottenham v Leeds

Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, UK, 9pm CET, Monday 11th May
Prices: 1.88 Tottenham, 3.90 Draw, 3.80 Leeds

Roberto De Zerbi may just have turned the tide in North London, with Spurs winning their last two games — including what could be considered a bonus three points at Villa Park last weekend.

They’re by no means safe yet and face the visit of a good Leeds side also looking to secure their Premier League status once and for all, but Tottenham have their confidence back. With a trip to Chelsea and Everton on the final day at home, they know this is probably their best chance of another three points.

With their nearest rivals West Ham playing league leaders Arsenal, they may know that a win here could just about keep them up. With the likes of Connor Gallagher, James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Richarlison, the Tottenham fight continues and they should have enough to edge this one and take a huge step towards avoiding the unthinkable.

Tip: Tottenham to win @ 1.88. 1 unit.
